Students of PenzGTU Get Acquainted with Penza Region Culture

May 4, 2021

April 22nd, in the framework of events dedicated to the year of Penza region spiritual heritage and culture, the students of “Fundamental and Applied Linguistics” major and the students of the pre-university course of the Faculty of International Students Education visited the Cultural Development Centre in Penza.
The Centre employees organized an excursion for the students of PenzGTU. They got acquainted with the activities of “Clever”(“Clover”) dance studio and listened to the performance of Russian and Mordovian folk songs. The guests of the centre – the students of PenzGTU – sang chastushki (traditional folk songs, consisting of 4 lines) and danced in a ring together with the students of Penza College of Art. The participants of the event were introduced to the folk arts and crafts and tried one of the most picturesque crafts – painting on wood. Together with Aleksei Subbotin, the head of the artistic association “Hobby Art”, they decorated a Russian matryoshka doll, combining traditional folk patterns with their creative art-ideas. They were also actively involved into a master class on painting of a traditional Russian matryoshka nesting doll.
T.Yashina and A.Ryabova, the teachers of the “Translation and Translation Studies” Department and the organizers of the visit, are sure: “Such events help students, especially those who come to us from other regions and even countries, learn more about the culture of the Sursky Region, understand the origins of the "Penza mentality" and appreciate the richness and beauty of folk art”.
